Dr. Mark Phelan has been a Refractive and Cataract surgeon with Abilene Eye Institute for over twenty years. He grew up in Michigan and moved to Texas in 1994 where he began his career in Ophthalmology. Dr. Phelan is privileged to say he has helped thousands of patients with their refractive needs throughout his career thus far. In addition to performing refractive surgery at Abilene Eye Institute, Dr. Phelan serves on staff at Abilene Regional Medical Center, Comanche Community Medical Center, Stephens Memorial and Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
While attending the University of Michigan, Dr. Phelan completed his undergraduate studies and earned a B.S. in Biology. He continued his education at the University of Michigan where he went on to receive his medical degree. Dr. Phelan completed his internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan and fulfilled his residency requirements at The University of Michigan W.K. Kellogg Eye Center where he served as Chief Resident during his final year.
Dr. Phelan is certified by the American Board of Eye Surgeons, and is a Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. He is proud to be a member of several professional societies including: the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery and the International Society of Refractive Surgery.
When he is not working with refractive and cataract patients, Dr. Phelan enjoys pursuing his many hobbies which include: photography, wood working, astronomy, and spending time with his wife of twenty-five years and their three children.
