Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (LACS)

Advancements in technology surround us almost everywhere we look. The Abilene Eye Institute is proud to offer our patients one of the latest advancements in cataract surgery: Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery or LACS.

During the LACS procedure, the Ziemer Z8 femtosecond laser very precisely creates all of the incisions for the cataract surgery including the corneal incisions, astigmatism reducing incisions, the opening in the lens capsule, and the cataract fragmentation.

For those that are good candidates for it, LACS offers a level of precision that cannot be obtained with traditional manual surgery. Our doctors have found LACS to be especially beneficial to patients electing to have a premium intraocular lens implanted. These lenses include the Toric (astigmatism reducing) and ReSTOR (multifocal giving a distance and near point of focus) intraocular lens.

Whether you have your cataract procedure at the Abilene Eye Institute using LACS or manual techniques, you can feel confident that you are benefiting from the latest technology available. Your surgeon will discuss your options with you during your consultation and recommend which technique and lens will best fit your lifestyle and needs.
